The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will work on future features for creating secure, scale-out storage by contributing to relevant open source projects. You'll also collaborate with other engineering teams to meet specific service goals. We will need you to have a solid record of designing, building, and deploying distributed computing software and infrastructure. You'll also need deep subject matter expertise in distributed systems, exposure to online services of scale, and technical depth in compute, storage, and software design.
Primary job responsibilities
Individual contributor/subject matter expert responsible for driving the ongoing internal process evolution for the OpenStack and OpenShift product lines and related products
Streamline development efficiency and iterative Agile development by steering upstream development priorities and timeframes to match customer requirements with development and test teams resulting in rapid release capability.
Partner with Engineering, Business Unit planning and implementation to establish clear outcomes and objectives aligned with open source community development practices for both internal operational practices and product release criteria.
Leverage deep technical understanding of OpenStack and its main customer use cases to establish pragmatic architectural approaches and predictable timeframes.
Train and institute Agile practices across product management, development and test processes.
Establish tight engagement with field (sales/support) teams to input requirements and feedback as well as ensuring issue escalation expedient resolution.
Represent the progress of the overall team both within the team and directly to executive management.
Bachelor’s Degree (US or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, an Engineering Discipline or a related field.
Ten (10) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role.
Must have seven (7) years of experience with: Understanding methodologies, including at least one of the following: lean, six sigma (black belt preferred), agile, with proven organizational transformation; Managing widely dispersed direct and virtual/matrix teams; and Presenting in open source technical conferences, such as OpenStack Summit.
Must have five (5) years of experience: Building teams and managing organizational change in high growth-rate companies in the software industry; with open source development productization with a proven track record at large scale (at least $10M+); and instituting Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) delivery models.
Must have four (4) years experience with: OpenStack technology, with a deep technical understanding of customer use cases.
