Job summary

The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for an experienced, NFV-focused Software Engineer to join us as an OpenStack NFV Product Lead in the U.S. In this role, you'll help resolve issues for enterprise customers by building high-level technical support and sustaining engineering service capabilities to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs. You'll work as part of the team to resolve issues quickly and efficiently and you'll partner closely with development engineering teams and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community. As a Software Engineer, you will get the opportunity to join one of the fastest-growing enterprise software and services companies and the leader of open source software. Work location for the role is flexible, which is why well-qualified home-based candidates in the U.S. and Canada will be considered.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Partner with product management and development engineering to resolve significant customer defect, usability, and supportability issues in the NFV features of Red Hat OpenStack Platform

  • Work with the support team on enablement and skills programs in the quickly moving technology space of Red Hat OpenStack Platform and NFV

  • Interface with the greater Red Hat technical support and field communities to work actively in joint programs to provide better support to customers adopting NFV

  • Contribute to the support team directly as an expert in the NFV area through collaboration on important strategic cases

  • Demonstrate considerable judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions

  • Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers

  • Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; engineering or computer science is preferred

  • 5+ years of experience as a technical support or development engineer for virtualization, software-defined networking, or cloud technologies on Linux

  • Experience working with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platforms

  • Practical Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance experience

  • Experience with network architecture, tcpdump analysis and Open vSwitch networking

  • Experience with advanced virtualization and process optimizations of threading, CPU pinning and NUMA

  • Familiarity with Red Hat's enterprise solutions portfolio and related industry offerings

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be detail oriented, possess excellent follow up skills, and work well in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

  • Upstream involvement in open source projects, including patches submitted for upstream inclusion, is a plus

  • Experience working with telecommunications solutions and understanding of relevant terminology is preferred
