Job summary

Become the technical champion and trusted adviser for our customers. The Red Hat Sales team is looking for a Solutions Architect within the Central Region’s Energy team to join us in Texas. In this role, you will partner with the Red Hat Account Executive team to achieve sales attainment goals through technical leadership both internally and with your customers. You’ll participate in the discovery of business and technical challenges in order to solve problems that link to Red Hat’s solutions. As a Solutions Architect, you will own the offerings for Red Hat's application development and container portfolio. You’ll need excellent communication and people skills, a solid foundation of technical expertise, passion for open source, and a thorough understanding of business processes and IT problems faced at the enterprise level. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Map business problems and technical challenges to Red Hat’s solutions

  • Develop lasting relationships with key technical and business stakeholders

  • Understand and follow industry trends

  • Manage customer satisfaction issues through escalation paths provided to Red Hat’s support methods and frequent checkpoints with customers both before and after the sale

  • Assist the account team by setting the technical account plan for key customers; develop overall strategy for selling and positioning our solutions portfolio

  • Participate in workshops and scope professional services; engage and work with specialists aligned with customer requirements

  • Work with strategic partners where applicable

  • Collaborate with area business development manager to identify emerging trends, develop sales plays, and request feature enhancement for Red Hat’s portfolio as it aligns with the needs of the energy vertical

  • Participate in Red Hat-sponsored events within the territory like user groups, trade shows, industry events, etc.

Required skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in sales engineering, consulting, IT architecture, or equivalent supporting enterprise accounts

  • 3-5 years of experience selling or working with application development tools like Java JVM and JRE, Java middleware, object-relational mapping (ORM), business rules engine, revision control systems like Git, Apache Subversion, GNU Bazaar, or mercurial), Jenkins, etc.

  • 1-2 years of experience with container technologies like Kubernetes, OpenShift by Red Hat, OpenVZ, LXC, Docker, CoreOS, Atomic Host, or related solutions

  • Experience with or understanding of databases such like PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Apache CouchDB, and cloud-based object stores like Firebase, DynamoDB, and Cosmos DB

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills

  • Demonstrated record of developing relationships across multiple business segments and roles

  • Ability to interpret customer business problems and technical issues and effectively explain how a Red Hat’s solution will align with identified challenges or requirements

  • Knowledge of enterprise solutions and architectures

  • Willingness to travel between 25-60%

  • Firm understanding of oil and gas or utility sector customers; ability to tailor solutions and messaging depending on the segment like upstream, midstream, downstream, gas, electric, petrochemical, trading, etc.

  • Understanding of internet of things (IoT) solutions as it applies to oil fields and smart grid

  • Experience with or practical knowledge of Red Hat’s software solutions; specifically Red Hat JBoss Middleware, Ansible by Red Hat, or OpenShift by Red Hat are a plus

  • Knowledge of manager-directed deeper solutions

  • Knowledge of cloud-native services like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Compute Engine (GCE) is a plus

  • Knowledge of programming using Java, .NET (C# or F#), Python, Ruby, Go, PHP, Javascript, REST, or API concepts is a plus
