Job summary

The Red Hat Community Platform Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in the Czech Republic. In this role, you’ll help us build and maintain infrastructure and services for both the Fedora and CentOS communities that Red Hat sponsors. Like in most Red Hat's engineering teams, you’ll work in a highly distributed environment. As a member of our team, you’ll run a lot of Python code, but also integrate services that require Java expertise, like Jenkins. You’ll work toward knitting together the Fedora and CentOS infrastructures to benefit both communities, which will in turn help Red Hat build better offerings the open source way. You’ll need to be a passionate full-stack developer who's familiar with Java, and either Python or a similar high-level language to help our team develop, deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain these services. You'll work with colleagues around the globe every day, directly in the communities that they serve. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will share what you know and learn with the team and the community at large.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and deploy infrastructure services for search and data crunching, metrics reporting, and better automation and continuous integration (CI)

  • Stay in tune with important open source projects that solve infrastructure problems in Fedora and CentOS and work with teammates to evaluate them for use

  • Use a comprehensive, standard set of tools like Git repositories, Ansible by Red Hat playbooks, IRC and email, and issue tracking to collaborate and communicate with your teammates and the community

  • Build community around team projects by constantly encouraging contribution and mentoring high-value individuals

  • Submit to and present on your work at community conferences occasionally to raise visibility of Fedora and the infrastructure and services around it; report regularly to your team and management

Required skills

  • Fluency in Java; substantial skill in at least one additional high-level programming language like Python or Ruby is a plus

  • Ability to transition between projects and languages

  • Experience using standard tools like Git, IRC, and email to collaborate with a distributed team

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, self-organize work, and deliver on commitments

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are a big plus

  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, or Fedora (servers or workstations) is a plus

  • Experience with Ansible by Red Hat is a plus
