Job summary

Work to enhance infrastructure and develop tests related to continuous integration (CI) testing of the Linux kernel and related user space. The Red Hat Quality Engineering team is looking for a Quality Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will interpret results, debug failures, and report bugs. You’ll need to have a passion for testing, automation, and examining how things work internally and a good understanding of Linux and other open source technologies.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Work on the development of CI infrastructure

  • Write and maintain automated tests for kernel and related user space testing

  • Debug software problems and write clear bug reports

  • Provide timely, complete, and accurate testing status reports

  • Work with development teams to review test gaps and ascertain the appropriate test levels to confirm that both teams are working together to reduce overlap

Required skills

  • Experience in software test planning, test design, test script automation, and documentation

  • Extensive experience using Python and Bash

  • Good knowledge of operating systems, hardware, networking, and kernel concepts

  • Solid debugging, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Solid interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work as part of a globally distributed team

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or relevant professional experience

  • Knowledge of C, Jenkins, and Ansible by Red Hat is a plus
