Create and edit content that helps our customers understand our offerings and find the best solutions for their needs. The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to join our AMQ Product Documentation team in Newcastle, UK. In this role, you will be part of a team that promotes customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery. You'll create and be responsible for customer-facing technical documentation that accompanies Red Hat's offerings, which will be made available online through the Red Hat Customer Portal. You'll define the scope of, quality test, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and consistently developing your technical expertise. As a Senior Technical Writer, you will drawing from your passion for both technology and communication and you'll work closely with developers, engineers, field teams and support engineers, and other subject matter experts.
Primary job responsibilities
Work closely with content strategists, engineering project teams, support teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat's offerings
Effectively manage documentation projects and deliver customer-focused and goal-oriented documentation
Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
Keep up to date with changes to our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues
Provide consulting advice (peer reviews and so on) to other technical writers to help improve their content
Master the use of our versioning systems (GitHub and GitLab) and issue-tracking tool (JIRA)
Fluent written and verbal language skills in English
Experience writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience, including feature descriptions, user stories, and release notes using industry best practices
Experience editing procedural documentation for clarity and ease of use
Experience defining and implementing information architecture and 3-5 years of enterprise-level technical writing experience
Familiarity with Red Hat's offerings and related industry offerings
Working knowledge of and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line
Experience with modular or topic-based documentation development
Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, actively engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments
Demonstrated ability to adhere closely to corporate style, terminology, and conventions
Inquisitive and tenacious, not afraid to ask questions or pursue tasks to closure
Demonstrated solid interest in and aptitude for learning new technologies
Experience with agile and comfort with rapid iteration and fast delivery
The following are considered a plus:
Familiarity with message-oriented middleware, including message brokers, APIs, and protocols
Familiarity with AsciiDoc and lightweight markup editors like Atom or Gedit
Understanding of open source principles and community dynamics
Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or an arts or language field
