Job summary

Plan and implement new automated tests for APIs, command line interfaces, example code, and web interfaces of our offerings. The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for an Associate Quality Engineer to join us in Brno, Czech Republic. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying all aspects of quality of the Red Hat JBoss Data Grid offering. You’ll write code to simulate complex scenarios used by our customers. You'll need to be able to review the design of new features and comment on the implementations. All of our source code is publically available, so you will be able to look at the changes as developers submit pull requests for review. You’ll test whether the features of the offering are functionally correct, examining and ensuring performance and scalability. As an Associate Quality Engineer, you will ensure that operating a large cluster at scale will be manageable for the Operations team. You'll also verify that our performance compares well to our competitors and ensure that the documentation included with the offering is accurate and understandable.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Implement code to verify Red Hat JBoss Data Grid functionality, scalability, and performance in a variety of environments

  • Analyze and prioritize quality risks and determine the tests required to mitigate them

  • Develop new frameworks and tools for test automation and execution

  • Constantly learn new things and maintain an overview of current technologies

  • Document new bugs and advocate their resolution with developers

  • Communicate the impact of these bugs to customers with developers and support

  • Participate in and perform root cause analyses of issues to get a starting point to address problems

  • Serve as an internal advocate for our customers

Required skills

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or relevant professional experience

  • Good Java SE knowledge, including concurrent programming

  • User experience with UNIX or Linux and bash scripting

  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP, UDP)

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with JUnit or TestNG

  • Knowledge of Git, Maven, or IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.)

  • Experience debugging Java applications
