Job summary

Become a trusted advisor, promoting customer adoption of Red Hat's tooling, methodology, and processes for application modernization and migration (AMM), application containerization, and microservices architectures as an integral part of customer value-added solutions. The Red Hat Sales team is looking for a Technical Presales Engineer to join our Global Alliances team in the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. In this role, you will work on open source-based application migration, transformation, or continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) projects over private, public, or hybrid cloud environments for enterprise customers. You’ll be expected to apply your experience working at a system integrator (SI) or boutique consultancy or public cloud provider specializing in application portfolio analysis, application refactoring for containerization, and migration planning and delivery. As a Technical Presales Engineer, you'll need the gravitas and experience to develop and nurture relationships with key influencers and decision-makers up to the c-level within the consulting and delivery practices of our alliance partners. This role should ideally be located close to one of our two main offices in either Amsterdam, Netherlands or potentially in any one of our major offices in the region. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Assist partners in creating joint services, solutions, and offerings

  • Guide the adoption and integration of Red Hat’s tools, methodologies, and frameworks for AMM, containerization, and microservices architectures with Red Hat’s alliance partners

  • Become familiar with how alliance partners deliver digital transformation projects; this will include application discovery and assessment for transformation readiness, categorization of applications for migration to a container environment "as is" upon refactoring or redevelopment, business value assessment, migration factory setup, tool chains, processes, monitoring, and governance, and application testing

  • Educate, coach, and mentor Red Hat’s and alliance partners’ technical presales associates on Red Hat's application architecture value proposition for alliance partners, including how to position, the resources available, and how to jointly identify and qualify opportunities

  • Assist alliance partners with the integration of Red Hat’s software, tools, methodologies, and frameworks

  • Assess partner skills, identify training requirements, and approve appropriate training and enablement plans for alliance partners' sales, technical presales, and delivery associates

  • Support local Red Hat’s alliance partner management teams and their partners with application architecture project opportunities throughout the qualification and technical presales cycle

  • Support alliance partners by delivering application discovery workshops and train them to be able to do this for themselves

  • Identify any gaps between Red Hat's assets for partner enablement and serve as the voice of the partner in ensuring that these gaps are effectively addressed by the development team

  • Work in close collaboration with Red Hat's Global Partner Technical Enablement team to develop and deliver training content and materials for alliance partners

  • Support EMEA and country-level stakeholders with demand generating activities (e.g., events, webinars, and publications)

Required skills

  • Software development background with solid understanding of and experience in open source software, software development life cycle (SDLC), and agile software development methodologies and frameworks like software engineering method and theory (SEMAT) and scrum

  • Demonstrable experience with the support and delivery of enterprise-scale AMM and containerization projects in either a technical presales or delivery role

  • 2+ years of practical experience with two or more technologies like OpenShift Enterprise and OpenShift Origin, containers, Docker, and Kubernetes, Red Hat JBoss Web Server, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (JBoss EAP), and WildFly

  • Experience in implementation of cloud-native applications over OpenShift by Red Hat or Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Experience configuring supply chain management (SCM), CI, and application life cycle management (ALM) tools in any of the cloud services like AWS or Microsoft Azure

  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Willingness to travel up to 60% within EMEA

Significant direct experience with a selection of tools from the following categories:

  • Build technologies like Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, CloudBees, or Bamboo

  • Deployment technologies like Jenkins, GoCD, Automic, Octopus Deploy, or Docker

  • Automation and management technologies like Puppet, Chef, or Ansible by Red Hat

  • Version control technologies like SVN, Git (GitHub or GitLab), TFS, or ClearCase

  • Monitoring (APM) technologies like Splunk, Nagios, AppDynamics, New Relic, or Dynatrace

  • Languages and frameworks like Go, JEE, Ruby, Python, Node.js, JSON, Eclipse, Eclipse Vert.x, WildFly Swarm, or Spring
