Job summary

The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for a Software Maintenance Engineer to join us in Brno, Czech Republic. In this role, you will join our team of application platform support engineers supporting our enterprise solutions portfolio. You'll provide technical assistance to ensure that our customers get the most out of our application platform support solutions. As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you'll become a trusted partner to our enterprise customers by offering personal assistance for Red Hat JBoss Middleware open source software.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Guide the resolution of customer issues from initial contact to complete customer satisfaction

  • Solve complex and sensitive support issues

  • Work with customer associates and consultants, including business managers, project managers, software engineers, security analysts, data center engineers, and customer network operations center (NOC)

  • Create knowledge base articles and technical notes

  • Engage and collaborate with open source developers around the world

  • Serve as the technical contact person for our Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Web Server

  • Advocate for customer requests and offer innovative ideas to improve the quality of our solutions

  • Manage assigned solutions and components by prioritizing issues for development teams

Required skills

  • Experience in production support with solid customer-focused skills

  • Practical experience in Apache WebServer 2.2.x and 2.4.x and Apache Tomcat 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, and 8.x

  • Familiarity with Apache HTTPD as reverse proxy and certificates generation for SSL configuration

  • Knowledge of cluster, failover, and load-balancing modules like modproxy and modjk with ISAPI redirector with IIS web server

  • Experience with application servers like Red Hat JBoss Middleware, Oracle WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Apache Geronimo, or GlassFish

  • Experience with web servers like Apache HTTPD, Oracle iPlanet, Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), IBM HTTP Server (IHS), NGINX, or lighttpd

  • Advanced troubleshooting and debugging skills; passion for problem solving and investigation

  • Knowledge of HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 protocols, HTTP methods, HTTP error codes, and understanding of the TCP protocol

  • Experience with the Linux or UNIX operating systems

  • Solid Java, JSP, or servlet programming skills

  • Fundamental understanding of SSL and TLS Encryption and SSL v2 and v3 and TLS v1, v1.1, and v1.2 protocols

  • Willingness to occasionally work after hours or on weekends

The following are considered a plus:

  • Familiarity with the Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform

  • Understanding of tcpdump analysis

  • Experience programming using C, C++, or PHP

  • Oracle, Red Hat, or Suse Linux certifications

  • Knowledge of mod_cluster and other modules of HTTPD
