The Red Hat Open Innovation Labs team is looking for an intern to join us in Boston, MA. In this role, you’ll join a team of consulting engineers, to work together in small teams to build, test, and iterate over innovative application prototypes attached to real business value. You will use a variety of modern application development practices, along with emerging technologies from the communities of open source, to get it done. You’ll join a team of subject matter experts who co-create innovative software solutions using emerging technology and modern software design methods. As you do so, you will create atmosphere of enthusiasm for building great software using principles of open source culture.
Primary job responsibilities
Team with our customers to lead the design and implementation of application prototypes in our lab, using modern application development practices and open source emerging technologies which may include:
Containers and container orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
Microservices, API management, and web-scale architectures
DevOps engineering and application delivery
Container-based continuous delivery
Cloud automation and everything-as-code
Create measurable hypotheses tied to business value and design a solution that tests those hypotheses over the course of a Labs residency to help our customers quickly realize their business goals
Team with Red Hat and the open source community to engineer labs-based software solutions, designed to further accelerate our customers’ success at labs
Use your critical thinking skills to tackle tough problems in an innovative way
Master’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline
Ability to study and quickly learn and put new ideas into practice
Passion for open source software
Working knowledge of design patterns applicable to modern software development
Comfortable and experienced working in agile, scrum, and DevOps teams
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container tools
Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities
Experience with the design, development, testing, deployment or operations of large, distributed applications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills
